In what ways did the Second Great Awakening influence Abolition?
Q. How did it? Wasn't the Second great awakening in the US like religious or something?
Asked by Nathan - Wed Nov 4 02:14:24 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Yes. The Secoond Great Awakening like the Great Awakening was religious. This made people question what was right and what was wrong, and slavery was thought to be wrong by many of these people/. Many people who were a part of the Second Great Awakening were abolitionist. And to tie in with your other question, yes, this means that many of the people in the Temprence Movement (who were mostly female) were also Abolitionists

What do you think brought around the abolition of slavery in Britain?
Q. I was wondering what people thought was a catalyst for the abolition of slavery in Britain. I know public opinion was changing but can anyone think of nthing else? Any help is much appreciated!
Asked by higghhddrr22 - Sat Apr 5 11:48:15 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The public campaign against slavery in Britain included interviews with former slaves. Many of them were quite eloquent in describing their capture, how they were treated, how they won their freedom, and how they'd been treated since. The brutality of the slave trade was what killed it. By the way, at the same time Britain was abolishing the slave trade, they were also exporting excess children to Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. That argues that they also had high unemployment at the time since children as young as seven could be employed--and most of the children being exported were age five and older. It was the British equivalent of the American Orphan Train.

what best describes the abolition and women's reform movements in the first half of the nineteenth centur?
Q. The abolition movement was only successful because of the success of the women's rights movement. These two movements did not succeed completely in attaining their goals during this period. The women's rights movement started after the abolition movement had attained its goals. These two movements were largely successful in attaining their goals during this period.

A. definitely not the first option, it was the other way around. the second looks good... the third choice is not right because neither obtained its goals because they were still fighting for civil rights for African Americans till MLK and still... and women s movement in the 1970 s... the fourth is obviously not correct because as I just said, women s rights and civil rights movements were still going on until the 1950 -1970 s and hey, do women still have the same rights in America? Has racism been eleminated? Now read the second choice. What do you think? Please buy A History of Women in America, I read it in when I was 15 and still remember what I read almost ten years later.

Would Canadians support the abolition of the Canadian monarchy with replacement of the office with a president?
Q. A president would be Canada's head of state, subordinate to the Prime Minister, and have no ties to the British monarchy, unlike the Governor General of Canada.
Asked by sweiland75 - Wed Mar 31 23:57:53 2010 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. 1. There is no link to the British monarchy, since the Statute of Westminster in 1931, Canada has it's own separate monarchy. 2. There is hardly any support for a republic in Canada; and amongst those there are support, they are split up on whether Canada should become a presidential/semi-preside ntial republic or a parliamentary republic. 3. A head of state can never be subordinate to a head of government (who in Canada's case, is a Prime Minister), the head of state must always be above the head of government (who in Canada's case, is a Monarch; or as proposed by the question - a president). 4. Technically speaking, it is the Queen and not the Governor General who is Canada's head of state, although the GG acts as head of state most of… [cont.]

What was the importance of religion to African Americans in the 1910s in relation to the abolition of slavery?
Q. My interest lies in Christain worship in the Southern states of America at the time (More specifically places like Georgia and Louisiana) and it's importance regarding family life and with the context of the abolition of slavery in 1865. Would there be any form of prejudice inside the church during this time and was religion a great center hold for many Black people?
Asked by Renee - Wed Nov 1 06:32:26 2006 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It is ironic that for many years, and to some extent still today, there are black churches and white churches of the same denomination in the same town. True, they tend to have different styles, but most of what keeps them separate is a general feeling that the races should stay separate which is felt by both blacks and whites, but for different reasons. The black communities of America have long been held together by their churches, and by the strong Mothers and Grandmothers who insisted the children go to church. Fathers, too, of course, but it was the women who held them together even when the men were busy with the darker side of race relations. Also, a church is an asylum, and the ministers would often hide those who were running… [cont.]

Q. Did the Great Awakening start the abolition movement in the 1800s?
Asked by Jessica - Tue Mar 4 09:05:26 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The Second Great Awakening did not start the abolition movement, but along with Quakers did help elevate the movement to a more intense level in the early 1800s. Abolitionism in the US had been going on for some time, bringing an end to slavery in northern states for decades. The roots of the movement may be more likely found in the Enlightenment of the 1700s.

A. in a nutshell - because you need to sort out the full answer for yourself - it allowed women the RIGHT to choose, which is what the women's movement was created for in the first place. although men obviously cannot choose whether to carry a baby or not, women wanted the right to be able to choose whether or not to carry on a pregnancy, when male dogma told them they couldn't do. good luck!

I could buy a site as a .org site and just write briefly on a subject just to find viewers...even though the information weren't necessarily great or even correct. So .com aren't bad either if they look nice and sounds reasonable. I mean, look at books. They're not free so they're almost like .com sites. And besides, some .com sites are .com because they don't know, but they're actually based on .org ideals. For me, I think the northern states just opposed slavery due to moral values. They could also oppose it because they needed more workers for their factories, etc. and so if they abolish slavery, they can get more workers (since… [cont.]
